Timing is everything -- and luckily for Dad, there will be a lot of things to celebrate this Father’s Day. As restaurants, parks, golf courses and more open their doors once again, there are heaps of ways to make Dad feel special and at the same time experience new delights.

Here are just a few things to do on Father’s Day throughout the Great Rivers and Routes region of southwest Illinois.

Horseback Riding

From fishing to horseback riding, boating and more, be sure to go outside this Father's Day

Did Someone Say Go Outside?

What makes your dad smile? Summer is here and there are quite a few dads who enjoy a day in the great outdoors. And of course, there is plenty of room to roam in the six county Great Rivers & Routes region. A great ‘daytripping’ adventure should include a trip to Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton where there are amazing views of the Illinois River and room to stretch out on the trails. Or maybe let him try his hand at horseback riding and take a 45-minute trail ride through the park with the Pere Marquette Riding Stables. (Travel Tip: Reservations are required).

Maybe Dad would like to do a little fishing. Horseshoe Lake State Park outside Collinsville, IL offers a great spot to fish with plenty of catfish, bass, and crappie ready to bite. The Watershed Nature Center in Edwardsville offers over 40 acres of prairie, forest, and wetland habitats that could give dad that Great Outdoors feeling!. Check out these great outdoor spots too!

Is Dad a golfer? The region offers many golf courses that will fit his fancy like Belk Park in Wood River or On the Hill Golf Course and Lounge in Edwardsville. Find more golf courses here.
