Bremer Sanctuary is celebrating its 45th anniversary! From 1 PM - 3 PM June 26 and October 16, H & B Bremer Wildlife Sanctuary will be offering an open house and Q & A with their volunteer stewards! This family friendly event offers the opportunity to hike the sanctuary and ride wagon rides leaving at 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM each day. Volunteers will be discussing the history and future of the sanctuary and the Education Barn and Meeting Hall will be open for tours. Take a hike on one of Bremer's many maintained trails and look for native songbirds, white-tailed deer, cotton tailed rabbits, and walk through a variety of habitats including restored prairie, woodlands, and more!

After the Open House event, stay from 3 PM - 5 PM for Aquatic Adventures- hike to Turtle Pond and explore the world of water creatures with educational activities and microscopic analysis to see the sanctuary's tiniest inhabitants! The Aquatic Adventures event is open to all ages!

In a world where most items are now disposable, the Stewards of Bremer made sure that the entrance sign would not be disposed of. The original sign, which was erected at the dedication ceremony in July 1977, sat along the driveway by the original home just east of the cemetery. When that parcel was sold to the Justison family, the sign was moved to the west, directly across from the parking area for the Arches Rail Trail parking. The posts for the original sign had seen better days and eventually rotted in the ground, but the framework was saved. The three boards which display the words “H&B Bremer, Wildlife Sanctuary, Illinois Audubon Society”, are now displayed on the east gable end of the picnic pavilion. The charter, Hickory Hills, was formed on April 26, 1980. Pictured is Helen & Betty Bremer in 1977!
