Take a Trip Along the Great River Road

Few sights in the Great Rivers & Routes region or anywhere, are as majestic as the stretch of the Great River Road between Alton and Grafton. On one side is the powerful and ever-changing Mississippi River, a reminder of the region’s history as a river boat hub. On the other are the limestone bluffs draped with a curtain of trees. Of course, that section of the road is just part of the journey through the region, with the road extending up through Calhoun County to Minnesota and down past Collinsville as it stretches to the Gulf of Mexico. Whether exploring Pere Marquette State Park, experiencing river history at the National Great Rivers Museum or looking out over the river at the Lewis & Clark Confluence Tower, just remember to enjoy the ride!
