No one knows how to do Halloween like the towns throughout the Great Rivers and Routes region located in Southwestern Illinois, minutes from St. Louis.

While historic and hauntingly great fun, area Halloween parades have been cancelled this year due to COVID-19. But there's still plenty of activities available for the kids ... and the kid in all of us. Each community has put its own spin on this most haunted season. Check out what's in store this year!

Get Ready to Trick-or-Treat ... Or?

Collinsville:  Instead of OCT-ober it's Egg-Tober in Collinsville. For $15, city employees will hide two dozen orange candy eggs in yards of Collinsville & Maryville residents for Easter-egg-style hunts. Enjoy the Monster Mast at Gateway Center Oct. 24 in the parking lot. Trunk or treat from 5 to 7 pm. Then spend the rest of the evening chowing down on candy at the drive in style movie “Hotel Transylvania” at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 per car.

Carlinville: Trick or Treat on Oct. 30 & 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Alton: Trick or Treat on Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to maintain 6-feet of social distancing and wear proper face coverings. (Please note a Halloween mask is not a substitute for a cloth face covering.) Disinfect all candy collected during Trick or Treat before consuming. A Reverse Trunk or Treat will be held Friday, Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Liberty Bank Amphitheater. The event is co-hosted by the City of Alton, the East End Improvement Association and the YWCA.

Bethalto: Trick or Treating on Oct. 30 & 31 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Must social distance, groups may be of household members only, and have to wear proper face protection. The Bethalto Rotary Club is also hosting a Trunk or Treat event at Civic Memorial High School parking lot. Entry in off of School St. exit will be onto W. Corbin St. on Oct. 30  from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

East Alton: Trick or Treating on Oct. 30 & 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Must social distance, groups may be of household members only, and have to wear proper face protection. Trick or Treating is for children 12 years old and younger.

Wood River: Trick or treating Oct. 30 & 31 frpm 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Edwardsville: Drive-thru Trick or Treat at Plummer Family Park on Oct. 30 from  6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A Virtual Halloween Costume Contest will be held Oct. 25-30 and the winner will be announced at 1 p.m. on Oct. 30. Downtown Edwardsville Halloween Trick-or-Treat Oct. 31, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at businesses on Main & Vandalia Streets. Neighborhood Trick or Treating from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Glen Carbon: Oct. 31 Trick or Treat from Noon to 9 p.m. Social distance and face masks.

Jerseyville: Halloween Festival at Dolan Park. Oct. 31 2 p.m. to 4 pm. Drive through contact free trick or treating and a contact free costume contest via e-mail (voting on Facebook)

Roxana: Trick or Treat Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Grafton: Trick or Treat Friday, Oct. 30 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Godfrey: Two days of Trick or Treat: Oct. 30 & 31 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
