Lucy Haskell Playhouse Open House
Come explore the Victorian-style playhouse of Lucy Haskell during the open house at Haskell Park!
In the 1880s, young Lucy Jane Haskell received an unforgettable gift for her fifth birthday: a beautifully crafted Victorian-era playhouse built in the ornate Queen Anne Stick Style. Complete with stained-glass windows and built-in cabinets for her dolls, this perfectly sized one-room treasure is now one of the last remaining playhouses of its kind in the United States. Lucy sadly enjoyed only a few short years there before her untimely death in 1890. In her memory, her family later gifted the playhouse, their home, and 6.4 acres of land to the City of Alton, creating what is now Haskell Park and the Haskell House Children's Museum.
Step inside the playhouse, take a walk through history, and rediscover the childlike wonder that surrounds this remarkable piece of Alton’s past.
