Gordon F. Moore Community Park
4550 College Ave., (Illinois Rt. 140), Alton, IL 62002
Located on the east side of Alton, the 702-acre Gordon Moore Park has been host to collegiate, high-school, recreational, and invitational sporting events. These fields host recreational soccer matches, 3v3 tournaments, football and flag football leagues and tournaments, and is home to the Marquette Catholic High-School soccer teams. Coming in 2021, Lloyd Hopkins Field will also host Alton’s new Prospect League baseball team. To prepare, the field will be upgraded to include a video scoreboard, seating for 1,800 people, batting cages and a locker room.
There are two lit baseball diamonds used as the home field for the local high schools, private tournaments, baseball showcases, and several collegiate games. There are eight other diamonds that house a multitude of baseball, fast pitch softball, slow pitch softball, and kickball leagues and tournaments. Five of the softball diamonds have lights for use at night. Two soccer/ football fields with artificial turf and field lights will be ready for play by summer 2020, and pickleball courts as well as additional youth baseball/softball/adult softball and football/soccer fields featuring artificial turf are also in the park’s plans for the near future. The park also has a 9-hole 1,995 yard disc golf course with grass tees and DISCatcher targets.
During the summer months, there are several high school and recreational tournaments played at the Simpson Tennis Center, which features 8 tennis courts. Gordon Moore Park is also home to an Arnold Palmer designed golf course, Spencer T. Olin, which was the host of two U.S. Championships.
