The Alton Little Theater has an impressive impact; founded in 1933, the ALT is the oldest live theater in Illinois to run continuous shows. To date, the theater has run over 500 productions- and that number grows every year! Whether you want to see a side-splitting comedy performance, a scandalous romance, an uplifting musical, or a tense drama, the Alton Little Theater has it all. The talented actors and hard-working volunteers of the Alton Little Theater bring the stage to life and also have brought the stage to other parts of Alton with historical performances- melding the arts with Alton's vibrant past in the Extra, Extra Entertainment Series including Vintage Voices which brings historic characters to life.

The Alton Little Theater was a big dream of Altonian Dorothy Colonius, a young English teacher for Shurtleff College, who imagined a community theater to serve her home town. Through much work and the dedication of many educators, volunteers, and the community, The Alton Little Theater became a permanent location by 1960 and the theater still bears its original architecture. The Alton Little Theater offers children's acting classes as well as instruction for new actors and performers- you can even audition or volunteer to assist in productions!

The "little" theater is quite spacious and can seat an audience of 220. The venue offers discounts for groups of 20 or more and, though it focuses on adult shows, the theater tries to put on a large family performance every summer. Food and beverages are offered in the foyer so you can have a nice snack while gobbling up the live entertainment. Dedication and effort put in by the theater's team allow for nearly twelve full productions a year.

Matinee performances start at 2 p.m. and evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. The Alton Little Theater opens 1 hour before showtime. Purchase your tickets online or at the box office Monday - Friday for an afternoon of classic theater with character!
