Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant
For over 100 years, Jubelt's has been in business serving fresh baked bread. The business is in the Route 66 Hall of Fame and backs its quality with experience, dedication, and care for its customers. Today the bakery is also a restaurant, deli, grocery, and caterer, serving all-day breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials, custom cakes and cookies, specialty coffee and espresso, and hand-dipped ice-creams, floats, and milkshakes.
In May, 1922, Paul, Fred, and Albert Jubelt bought a bakery in Mount Olive and began to bake bread. When Albert died in 1929, Paul and Fred opened a second bakery in Granite City. By 1935 the brother's partnership dissolved, but Paul kept the Mount Olive bakery operating and in 1950, after WW2, he opened a shop in Taylorville. Just two years later, a bakery in Litchfield was opened. Over the next 40 years, the Jubelt family expanded, starting bakeries in Lincoln, Carlinville, Staunton, Gillespie, and Springfield. The businesses served local grocery stores and their towns with breads and sweets and fresh produce.
By the 70's John Jubelt, son of Paul, took over the business and started serving packaged sandwiches. He eventually sided with a new concept restaurant in Litchfield called "Stick and Dip" and Jubelt's started to serve fresh sandwiches, soups, and salads. In 1982 the current Litchfield location opened. By the 80's, large chain stores began eating at local baker's and grocer's business. John Jubelt died in 2003 and Jubelt's stores began to close. The Litchfield location is the last remaining and has become a community landmark and popular stop along the Mother Road.
Today, Jubelt's is owned by John's daughter, Jeanmarie. The bakery creates pastries, donuts, muffins, cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pies, and more- all from scratch. Jubelt's restaurant still serves sandwiches, soup, and salad, but also offers all-day breakfast, American diner classics, and dinner specials. Choose Jubelt's food catering for your next party, graduation, wedding, or anniversary. Custom cake, cupcake, and cookie orders are also welcomed. Find lush produce, homemade dips, jams, dressings, frozen meals, and deli meats at the grocery counter.
