Not Open to General Public but can be driven through and is a dark spot for stargazing

Found just off SW 750 St. leading from Spankey Road, McMaster Woods is a very rural natural preserve near Carrollton, Eldred, and Fieldon Illinois. The preserve is 40 acres and spans across part of Greene County. The area was founded in 1992 and is rich in wildlife like American bald eagles, white-tailed deer, coyotes, and small mammals, as well as various songbirds and other species native to southwest Illinois. The preserve is mostly oak forest, grassland, and fern cover. There is no formal access into the preserve, but there are country roads with pull-offs that are perfect for stargazing and the preserve is close to the Mississippi River.
