Celebrating Untold Stories: Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway Association

Join West End Service Station July 24 to learn about the history of the Route 66 Scenic Byway from guest speaker Casey Claypool!

Casey Claypool is the executive director of the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway and has led the organization since March of 2020. The focus of the byway is to continually promote and enhance economic opportunities for each community along Illinois Route 66 by preserving and increasing Illinois Route 66 heritage. The byway serves over 90 communities in Illinois, and they work to help historical attractions, businesses and communities take full advantage of their route 66 resources to provide the best experience for visitors from around the world.

In late 2021, Casey and her husband, Steve purchased Docs Soda Fountain in Girard, Illinois, renamed the historic business to Docs Just Off 66, and restored the old soda fountain, adding a restaurant, bar and pharmacy museum. Through décor and stories, Docs Just Off 66 pays homage to the three generation Deck family that opened the business in 1884 as Deck’s Drug Store. Docs currently displays thousands of pharmacy relics and photos of the old drug store.
