Get out on the water and learn the basics of kayaking with this 1.5-hour, beginner-friendly class at the Riverlands.
You’ll start at the new ADA-accessible dock near the overlook at the Audubon Center on the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary. Experts from the Mississippi River Water Trail Association, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Audubon will walk you through water safety and kayaking fundamentals before launching onto Ellis Bay. From there, you’ll paddle alongside a Riverlands environmental educator who will point out and interpret the incredible wildlife found along the Mississippi River.

- Ages 13+ (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
- Class limit: 9 participants per session
- Cost: $25
Weight Guidelines:
- Kayaks typically have a 300 lb limit
- If you weigh 260 lbs or more, please contact Lauren at lauren.haugen@audubon.org to ensure proper accommodations
What to Wear & Bring:
- Synthetic clothing only (no cotton)
- Closed-toe shoes required
- Sunblock and sunglasses recommended
- Hat encouraged
- Water for hydration
