The group of 33 travelers departed at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers in 1804, travelling over 8,000 miles across the rugged North American landscape to the future state of Oregon. They encountered Native American tribes, forded rivers, and fought harsh weather, disease, and starvation.
