MCHS "History Belongs to all of Us" America 250 Discussion Series
Join the Macoupin County Historical Society for the “History Belongs to All of Us” America 250 Discussion Series in Macoupin County, exploring the many voices and stories that shaped America’s past.
This engaging series will feature discussions highlighting Native history, early frontier relationships, and perspectives often left out of traditional historical narratives.
The series includes:
- June 1 - A discussion of the 1812 Nicholas Welch Land Grant featuring excerpts from Chief Black Hawk’s autobiography at the MCHS Anderson Home Museum.
- July 6 - The Story of the Friendship Between Early Pioneer Seth Hodges and Chief Black Hawk with speaker Sharon Bryden at the MCHS Ruyle Building
- July 16 - We the Native People: History Belongs to All of Us with author Kim Sigafus of the Ojibwe Tribe at the MCHS Ruyle Building
- August 3 - Portrayal of Dolley Madison with speaker Barbara Kay at the MCHS Ruyle Building
- November 2 - "The Hello Girls" focuses on young American women dispatched to France during Word War I to serve as telephone operators with speaker Rosemary Connolly at the MCHS Ruyle Building
Through storytelling, historical interpretation, and thoughtful discussion, guests will gain a deeper understanding of the people, cultures, and relationships that helped shape the region and the nation.
